人間性の研究なんです。

牧師館の書斎で退役大佐が射殺されて発見されます。
牧師が語るかたちをとって筋が展開していきます。
村の色々な人たちが登場し、それぞれが色々な目撃談を牧師にもちこんだり、警察の捜査に協力拒否する様子が語られます。
村の住人のミス・マープルもその一人。
誰よりも観察眼が鋭いと牧師に評価を受けている彼女は疑わしい人が「７人」居るといいますが…。
村の様子や、警察官達の姿、そして牧師の家庭の様子が快活な感じで描かれていて面白く読みすすみました。
無駄に思える村人達の証言が最後にちゃんと伏線だったと気づかされます。
ちょっと煙たいけど、頼りになるミスマープルの様子が楽しい本です。

この本を読むたびに、思うこと。
ありきたりな、殺人事件。
出来事も、犯人も、なにもかも、ありきたり。
・・・でもわたしは、この本を、何回も、読んでいます。
事件はありきたりなのに、なにか、ひきつけるものがあるのです。動機も犯人も忘れてもいないのに、また読みたくなるなにかが、この本にはあります。
さあ、牧師館に、訪れてください。
マープル登場 （2005-07-30）
物語全体を通してみると人間の感情が迸り出ています。
筆者は感情にとらわれた人間を徹底的に動かしていると思いました。
ただマープル初登場の作品であるため筆者の側にマープルの動かし方
に迷いがあったのではないかと推測しています。

Miss Marple's first mystery ever... （2004-02-17）
Miss Marple plays her first role in "The Murder at the Vicarage." As all of Agatha Christie's books, this one will keep one in suspense, bewilderment, and amazement towards Agatha Christie's talent of inventing her most intricately designed mysteries. One, if any, somewhat bad point to the mystery is that Miss Jane Marple's appearances are fairly scarce. She doesn't take so much part of the story as one might wish by presence. In this book, the Vicar is the one who puts the story together, who is the narrator, and who seems to play the main part. But then, it shows how the hero/heroine finds the murderer from a rather unique point of view from most other mysteries Agatha Christie wrote. Miss Marple is the only series of a female solo playing part in a mystery story. I personally think it fabulous how Agatha Christie managed to include an elderly woman, who had the stunning wits that outwitted all the other young ones, in a few of the many breathtaking mysteries she has written. "The Murder at the Vicarage" is truly a work of genius. Despite the somewhat absence of the heroine, Agatha Christie's way of having the heroine solve the murder in silence is truly an enchanting way of doing it. Yes... "The Murder at the Vicarage" is a must-read!
